Kelly and her friend, Connie, found Amiga when they both lived in Indiana. Amiga made the initial friendly overtures to Kelly and her dog, Zoe. Her friendliness is what prompted Connie to suggest “Amiga” for her name. Soon after, Kelly and Connie were able to examine her, and realized she had been wandering the streets for a long time and was in pretty bad shape. She was declawed, but must have escaped her home. We cleaned her up, took her to the vet, gave her food and shelter. Because Amiga loved Kelly’s dog and hated (hated!) Connie’s cat, she lived with Kelly.
Amiga had a healthy, long, and happy life with Kelly. Amiga was a loving companion through the years as Kelly moved to Colorado, got married, and had a son. She was spunky and very sweet. If Kelly was upset, Amiga would come and sit with her. Amiga seemed to love music, especially Kelly playing the piano. She was surprisingly tolerant of Kelly’s baby boy tugging and pulling on her, and actually preferred to be sitting near him (just out of reach!).
Connie got to visit often, and was there at the end. Kelly and Connie are both very grateful to Dr. Amanda Burdette and Home to Heaven for helping Amiga’s last day be a good one – relaxing in the sunshine one last time.
